Classroom notes
Even though we took cap and gown pictures today, we do not have a graduation ceremony. Our BIG end of year celebration is the Kindergarten Circus on May 25
th at 9am. Hope to see you there!

I cannot believe that we are almost the to end of Kindergarten! One month to go! This next month will be fairly crazy as we finish up curriculum, administer our end of year assessments and prepare for the fun last weeks of school. Although this is a fun time, it is also a time where I will still expect the best from my Cubs both behaviorally and academically. We have to be ready for first grade!

As parents, all you see are the happy, smiling faces that come home in the picture packets...

This is the REAL picture day! Haha!

Casey is now a chrysalis! This morning it was hanging upside down and within the hour, it looked like this! Too cool! Now, caterpillar #2 looks like it is getting ready to starting spinning as well!

Our caterpillars have been chomping down on some milkweed the past week and they are getting FAT! Casey has moved to the top of the cage and I hope that it will be in a chrysalis by the morning! Casey's still-to-be-named sibling is still chomping down...maybe it will be getting ready to spin in a day or so!

This week, we started our math unit on measurement. We started with learning about length. We used chenille sticks (aka pipe cleaners!) and found items in the classroom that were shorter, longer, and about the same as our sticks. The cubs had a blast!

Last night, Mrs. Sturch and I presented our "iLearn with iPads" grant at the Commerce Schools Educational Enrichment Foundation's Boots and BBQ fundraiser. I am so thankful for this foundation! Through their generosity, my classroom has received an iPod Touch with a speaker dock, a class set of Promethean ActiVotes, and 5 Apple iPads. This is over $5,000 worth of technological resources for one classroom! The Cubs and I are blessed.

Downey Publushing (who publishes our local telephone directory) is having an art contest! See the entry form below!

Classroom Notes
Report Cards come home today. I am so proud of my Cubs!

Cap and Gown pictures are next Friday. The gowns are white so a white collared shirt looks best. Girls, please wear your hair down. The caps don’t look or fit right with ponytails or bows. I will be there to make sure they look their best! Picture packets will be sent home in a week or so for you to pick from.

Last week during our weather review unit, we studied rainbows! I just love rainbows! So full of color and they hold a special promise...

The Cubs learned "The Rainbow Rules" for catching a rainbow and the order of the colors. Ask your Cub how to "catch" a rainbow!

We also made special rainbows to hang in our classroom. Why are they special? Our children brainstormed and chose 6 positive traits that described them. They truly are a gift!

I was pleasantly surprised this afternoon when I stopped by the classroom. Casey needed new milkweed and Miss M was dYiNg to see our caterpillar. Well, she saw TWO caterpillars! Casey has a sibling. We may have to put the new caterpillar up for adoption...I hear that Mrs. Oats is looking! :)

This is our newest class pet, Casey the Caterpillar. Michaela came up with this awesome name! We decided that it fit perfectly since we don't know if Casey is a boy or a girl. We will continue to feed it milkweed and see what happens. Stay tuned!

As soon as the Cubs walked in the door this morning, I was bombarded with questions, statements and concerns over the violent storms that shook Commerce yesterday. Since I could tell that they were needing to talk about their experiences, we had a community oval time where they got to share anything they wanted to tell me about the storm. We reviewed the good listener skills that we learned at the beginning of the year and we passed our Kelso frog around the oval as we shared. Since writing can be therapeutic, we incorporated our experiences into our journal time. This friend chose not to speak about about their experience but I hope writing helped his heart.
