When I decided to teach, about 9 years ago now, little did I know that I would fall in love at the beginning of every school year and cry happy tears at the end. It has been an awesome journey! I have made so many friends (big and little!) and learned a lot. Teaching the little friends has been very rewarding and each Kilgore Cub has a special place in my heart. I truly hope that they take a piece of me with them into their future because I have a piece of each of them in my heart.

I am blessed to have been able to teach my big friends as well! Ü Helping the teachers at CES the past 3 years with their technical issues or training them on classroom technologies has been a passion that I pursued outside of my classroom.

With that being said, I am happy to announce that I will be able to help teachers full-time starting this Fall. I am the new District Instructional Technologist for Commerce ISD! I will be in every classroom in the district working with teachers to utilize the awesome technology that we a so blessed with! So, this isn't "good bye" to any of my prior students, this is "see you in the hallways!" or "see you in your classroom!"  I'm very excited for this new adventure to begin. My heart is teaching, I just get to spread my love out over the whole district! <3

Miss Brittany is spoiling Tuck and Pancake! Mrs. Henson gave her a larger tank for the turtles and I know that they are loving the extra room!

Today, Keaton popped the #15 balloon and today we get to...

Yesterday, Kiera popped the #17 balloon and we got to be crafty and make cards for our favorite CES teachers!

Guess who their favorite is? Not me! Lol! No, I told them to choose a different teacher. They had fun creating and delivering them!

Kimberly popped the #17 balloon for us yesterday. It said that we were going to become artists for the day! Unfortunately, out end of year reading test took longer than expected so we waited until today. It was worth it! The cubs got to use tempra paint to decorate their end of year portfolio folder. They had a blast!

By the way, sorry moms for the messy clothes! A little spray and wash and a good soak will get it out! I was a casualty myself and am soaking my pants as I type! Ü

Also, thanks to the CES PTO for all of the yummy lunches and desserts this week AND the CISD administration for the pizza lunch today!

Lastly, thanks for Mrs. Lay and Mrs. Stegall for the adorable new CES T-shirt! I am blessed to be a part of such a great district!

We watched the Kindergarten Circus from last year and learned a little about each act. Today, the Cubs meet with me and give me 2 options for the parts they want and I'll make the final decisions soon!

No homework tonight and no more reading homework for the rest of the year! We will continue Sunshine Math for 2 more weeks though as this is a wonderful review and test prep activity. Yay! No more filling folders and checking off homework for me! Hehe!

Today begins the countdown for our last days of Kindergarten! Rubi popped the #22 balloon for us AND got to be me and lead the entire calendar time! She makes a good Mrs. Kilgore!

Today we had a fabulous, fun Friday! First, we had to take care of business and take our last TEMI test. They worked so diligently...you could hear a PIN drop! I was SO proud!

We also had the 5th 6 weeks awards assembly...our last one for the year! Congrats to the winners!

Lastly, some special ladies volunteered to help me with my grant and wrote about why they love our ActivTable. I have some wonderful helpers!❤

Classroom Notes
Since we took cap and gown pictures this week, I am getting a few questions about the date of the Kindergarten graduation. We don't have a graduation ceremony here at CES. Instead, we bring you the GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH! Yes, we put on a full length circus performed by YOUR children! It is the highlight of our year and an event that you DO NOT want to miss!

If you have changed your email address or cell number since the beginning of the year, please send me the updated contact information. My group texts and emails are getting kicked back from a lot of my contacts. I don't want you to miss any important here at the end of the year. May is one CrAzY and FuN month in Kindergarten! Remember to check the blog too! www.kilgorescubs.blogspot.com is updated multiple times weekly with this information, snack calendar and pictures of the Cubs in action! Check it out!

With it being the end of the school year, we all feel it. We're ready for SUMMER! However, we have 6 more weeks to be classmates and Mrs. Kilgore's Cubs! To help my friends focus on the good they see in one another, I started a kindness chain! The first day or two was a slow start but we now have 4 chains of kindness! When our chain reaches the floor, we're having a PaRtY! Not sure what kind of party yet but it will be a friendly fiesta!!

Plants DO need both water AND sunlight to grow and live! Over the past 2 weeks, we observed these three plants. Plant 1 had water and sun, plant 2 had water and no sun, and plant 3 had sun and no water. Plant 1 was green, growing and blooming while the other 2 were yellowing, crispy and sad looking!

I love these kids! SO precious!

Monday was Earth Day and we discussed ways to take care of our earth, wrote about it (and finished those earth watercolor paintings from Friday!), read The Lorax by Dr. Seuss, and picked up trash on our playground!

We were very busy today working on Earth Day projects! So busy in fact that I forgot to take pictures! That's SO not like me! However, I did think to take pictures of the "work in progress" that we will complete this next week. Stay tuned...

Today, we discussed the letter Ww and it's sound. As part of the fun (and a good social skills lesson on acceptance and bullying) we read "Hooway for Wodney Wat." It's a story about a rodent who has a speech impediment (a topic close to my own heart!) and is able to outsmart a bully and become the hero of his class. We all changed our names to begin with the letter W just like Rodney! Of course, Mrs. Wilgore joined in the fun too!! Ü

This week in math, we are studying fractions...specifically halves. Yesterday, we learned about halves of circles. After the lesson, we read the book "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie" and made a fraction craftivity! After we drew the chocolate chips on our cookie, we cut our cookies into two halves. Since you learn to share in kindergarten, we each took one half and traded with a friend! The craftivity was a lot of fun and the kids thanked me multiple times for planning it!

This week in Social Studies, we learned about why we need jobs. You know how kids are, they think that all of our needs and wants can be bought from the money tree growing in the back yard! Hehe! Thanks to Paige Throgmorton (Evan's mom) for representing the Cubs and speaking about her job as a cardiac nurse! A special thank you also to Greenville PD K9 Officer Robert Pemberton (Hannah's dad) and Greenville FD's Colby Estes (Evie's uncle) for sharing their jobs with us!

We are digging deeper into the numbers 16-20 this week and using story problems to decompose (break apart) the numbers! The Cubs are doing a great job listening and following directions to master the concept...I'm a proud teacher!

Brick's great grandpa Brown took Flat Stanley on an adventure on his farm! Not only did they send us a letter detailing the adventure, they also made a bound story book and sent every Cub a cowboy flat Stanley to color, a toy tractor, pencil, bandanna and candy!

(For the parents who own an iPad, check out this new app that I learned about!)

Screen Shot 2013-03-15 at 11.29.08 AMPBS Parents Play & Learn is a FREE iPad app designed for parents to use with their children. The appoffers thirteen games put into settings that parents and their children are likely to go to together. Some of the settings are a library, a park, a restaurant, and a grocery store. The games are intended to help children learn to count and spell. Along with each game there is a set of four activities that parents can do with their children in each setting. For example, one of the suggested grocery store activities is to introduce children to the concept of weight and measuring things in the produce section of the grocery store.

Miss Hammons just happened to know a REAL Cowgirl...her sister-in-law Holly! So, she invited Holly to bring her horse and her tools to talk to us about them. She was very knowledgable and patient with all of the Kindergarteners and even let us pet her horse if we wanted! You know the cool part? Holly gives private riding lessons! Her business card is pictured below! Thanks to Holly Hammons for being such a great guest!

Thanks to all of the parents and Cubs who came to open house last Tuesday night! I love the excitement that the kids have over showing off their hard work and their classroom! Here are some highlights:

In science, we have been talking about the moon and stars. We made our own constellations and hung them on the ceiling.

Then, we used prepositional phrases (Language Arts lesson) to describe where our shooting stars went around the moon.

Also in Language Arts, we are reading expository (or real life) text. We read a few books about Texas and studied a few of the main facts. Using these facts we learned, we authored and illustrated a fact book about Texas. Another topic we learned about was the job and tools of the cowboy and cowgirl. After reading a few books on the topic, we wrote about a tool that they use and what the tool is used for. Finally, we learned how to draw ourselves a cowpoke!
